Four Seasons Resort, Palm Beach

star

Long known for its gracious service and unrelenting focus on the details, the Four Seasons is the only five-star, five-diamond hotel in Palm Beach.

Yet by 2018, management felt it was time for an update. They closed the property for four months, redoing all of the 193 luxury guest rooms and 14 suites, plus the pool deck and restaurants. They also added a new signature restaurant, a second pool, and new landscaping, even transplanting a five-story tall, 45-foot wide banyan tree to the hotel’s entrance.

The remodeled guest rooms and suites are gorgeous, with hand-tufted wool rugs and custom silk wall coverings. Yet one of the biggest upgrades is the addition of sustainable Lutron myRoom lighting and temperature controls.

myRoom gives the guest complete control of lighting and temperature, but also ties into the hotel’s reservation and door entry systems to minimize energy use without compromising comfort.

When a guest checks in, the system brings the room or suite’s temperature to an optimal level, and when he or she opens the door, it automatically turns on the lights to preset “welcome” levels, which vary by the time of day.

When the guest leaves, if the system detects no movement within the room or suite for 30 minutes, it will dim the lights and let the temperature “drift” up or down by two degrees. When the guest returns, it resets the lights to the level appropriate for the day, evening or night, as well as resetting the temperature.

Guests, of course, can choose the temperature they like, and that becomes the new optimum for the rest of their stay.

When guests check out, the temperature is allowed to drift as much as six degrees.

A dashboard available at the front desk and in the engineering office, gives staff the ability to adjust, monitor and troubleshoot lights and the HVAC system.

Think Simple handled the system design, programming, and the installation of low-voltage components, working with the hotel’s electrical contractor for the high-voltage installations. We also installed a myRoom server in the hotel’s server room, and handled the interface between myRoom and the reservation and door entry systems.

The system helps the property maintain its remarkable reputation while it lowers its carbon footprint.

A large majority of guests on TripAdvisor give the property 5 out of 5 stars. One guest writes, “The new renovation is beautiful and we had an amazing, relaxing vacation! The service is impeccable and everyone is very accommodating from the reception staff, the concierge, the outdoor pool bar staff and the serving staff. Thank you for going above and beyond!”
